Stone gardenpath

The done-for-now stone path.

Background

In the garden plan, there has always been a path. What form it would take, and what it would look like when it was finished was never fully decided until we did this.

Design

Looking at the materials we had available to us -- a lot of stones, dirt -- we decided that a curved path from the raised terrace area to the garden gate was an ideal solution that would give us the greatest flexibility for future projects.

Implementation

We had finally managed to even out the earth in the garden, so it was now time to dig down and place our selected stones in the path. We selected stones from our pile of rocks and dug down so we could set the level of our path at the angle we wanted to control the runoff (we want the water to move away from the house and toward the gate). It was a manual game of stone tetris to get all the stones we wanted in the correct position, at the correct depth.

Result

We dug down into the newly leveled surface to get our stones at the level we wanted them.

We used dirt as mortar. We're not sure yet if we'll keep these as the path stones or not, so this will be easier to take up if we want to go anther direction.

Done up to the point where we need to dig up some big rocks.

Path is Jav approved.
